David Farwell is currently spending six months as a visiting professor at the
Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Farwell
is involved
in the Organizing Committee of the 42nd Annual Meeting of the
Association for
Computational Linguistics which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, in July of 2004.
He has also been extensively involved in the planning and implementation of an
International Workshop Series on Spanish Language Processing and Language Technologies.
The first workshop was held in Santa Fe, New Mexico in July of 1997 and sponsored by
CRL. The second workshop was held in Spain in 2001 and again in part sponsored by CRL.
A third workshop in the series is being planned for Barcelona in 2004 to be held in
conjuntion with the Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics.
The goal of this workshop series is to promote the creation of an infrastructure for
carrying out research and development in the computational processing of spoken and
written Spanish. They do this by bringing together researchers and developers from
Europe and the Americans to present the most recent advances in the field and to
catalog resources available for research and development and by promoting cooperative
efforts among participants from different geographical regions.
