Online workshop on the Effects of Environmental Stress on Cognition
Due to the distributed nature of interested researchers we have decided to organize the
workshop as a series of position papers. These will be made available on the web to
participants. All participants are encouraged to discuss and provide feedback to the papers
authors, who will then respond with their opinions. After a period of four months the
authors will produce a final version of their papers and these will be assembled into the
workshop proceedings and published. The total time period needed is six months (to the end
of March 2006).
The papers should address one or more of the following questions.
- Why would one, based on theory (of stress or cognition), expect that extreme
environments
would affect cognition and what effects would one expect?
- What evidence is there that there are cognitive effects?
- What methods and measures can be used to investigate the effects of stress on cognition?
- If there are effects what approaches can we take to alleviate the effects?
We will invite two authors to produce papers on each topic. Invited authors will come from
the government research agencies, companies and academia. Other participants can also
volunteer papers on their research.
The web site and instructions for use will be produced by the 16th September and will be
advertised at the HPEE workshop on the 24th September.
