Literals are used to bottom out on unending decompositions of meanings in order to keep MRs simple. Indiscriminate use of literals takes us closer to the word sense approach and is strongly discouraged by our methodological guidelines for representing lexical and world knowledge (Mahesh, 1995; Mahesh and Nirenburg, 1995).
