Guidelines for Definition Strings

1. If the term is defined in the Mikrokosmos Glossary (available on the world-wide web through Mosaic) use the definition in the glossary.

2. If you can find a dictionary definition that corresponds to the concept you are defining, use the definition.

3. Else, include the parent concept name in the definition string. For example, the definition for Consult is ``The rogative act of asking someone for advice.''

4. Else, include examples of words that map to this concept in the definition string. For example, the definition of Assertive-act is ``acts performed in asserting something, as exemplified by the English verbs 'report', 'announce', 'state', 'declare'''

5. Else, include salient members of the Subclasses of the concept in the definition of the concept. For example, for Animal-derived-substance, the definition is ``substances derived from animals, such as leather, horn, ivory, etc.''

6. Remember that only the first 79 (or so) characters of the definition string are visible in the definition displayed at the top of the frame editor. Therefore, please make sure that distinguishing parts of the definition string are in the first 75 characters of the string (or at least start in the first 75 characters).
