The Seibu Sezon Group's hotel chain, Intercontinental Hotels (IHC; headquartered in New Jersey in the United States; chairman, Tsutsumi Yuji), on the 19th contracted with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS; headquartered Stockholm; representative, Carlson), having decided to tie-up for such things as common (i.e. joint) use of a hotel and airline ticket reservation system. The Sezon Group, in order to set up a multinational comprehensive travel service company, will pursue an active overseas expansion policy by means of the tie-up with SAS.
The tie-up consists in connecting the IHC and SAS computer systems and making an integrated reservation system for IHC's 99 hotels and SAS's 92 hotels and airline ticketing. The ((tie-up)) will aim to provide comprehensive travel service from issuing airline tickets to such things as hotel reservations, transportation from the airport to the hotel, and baggage transport, and will develop software for that purpose.
Last December Sezon Group bought up IHC hotels, which are in 84 cities in 47 countries ((throughout)) the world.
With the tie-up, IHC's holding company, Sezon Overseas, will increase its capital by US$500 million; SAS will pay in the capital increase. So that will result in a 60 percent Sezon investment in Sezon Overseas and a 40 percent SAS investment.
