This Saturday, the New Mexico Chapter of the Cycstic Fibrosis Foundation presents the 9th annual Sandia Peak Challenge. Online registration is still available - but closes tonight. Info and Registration available here. Online registration is great. It makes for tight, accurate rosters and smooth race day operations. Registration also available at packet pickup at REI on Thursday 3-9 pm and Friday 3-5 pm and at the ski lodge on Saturday starting at 9am before the race. (Day of race registration costs more, so sign up early and save some green). It was a perfect (warmish) sunny day for riding fast through the trees. This event is a fundraiser and public awareness event for the non-profit New Mexico Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. By participating in the event, you help some really good people do very important work here in New Mexico for people and families living with CF. First and foremost (Part 2): Thanks to the NM-CFF and the sponsors for presenting this event. Bike races are neither easy nor free to put on. In the present economy, sponsors have become even more rare and less generous. The NM-CFF and its partners have stood in and shown their commitment to present this race and the other related activities as good quality, well-supported events. If you enjoy racing your bike, do what you can to let the sponsors know that you appreciate their help and give them your business and support when you can. (They are listed below :-) Like most of us, the NM-CFF folks who put this event together need to report to others about the success of their projects. If you appreciate their efforts, it never hurts the send a quick note of support. (Likewise, if there are suggestions on things to improve, that feedback is helpful as well.) The NM-CFF's executive director is Amanda Myrick-Bergamo, and she (along with many other hard workers and volunteers from the Chapter) were there each step of the way. More info here: http://frazermountainmadness.com/index.htm There are some good lodging deals this year like rooms at The PowderHorn are 1/2 price (2 nights for the price of one)! The lodges who are event sponsors are listed here: http://frazermountainmadness.com/lodging.htm I'll put in a plug for the PowderHorn since they've been a good race sponsor for several years now. Lots of NMORS points available that weekend so get out of the heat and come see me. That's right, I'll actually be present at a NMORS event this time! I know many of you have missed me terribly. I missed you too - some more terribly the others. Now don't go getting all googlied eyed 'n shit. It's not that big a deal - not near as big a deal as the cheap beer at the rewards ceremony. Santa Fe Brewing is the title sponsor this year! And no, I won't be riding but rather officiating like always. My focus this spring has been white water rafting. All rafting and no riding makes Cliff a slow boy. Speaking of which, I've been trying to find one of the those "SLOW / Children at play" signs to put at my house. Actually a 'SLOW / Adult at play" would be more appropriate. See you next weekend. --Cliff From loucks at swcp.com Wed Jul 15 16:29:08 2009 From: loucks at swcp.com (Cliff Loucks) Date: Wed, 15 Jul 2009 16:29:08 -0600 (MDT) Subject: [bmba] I stand, er, drink corrected! Besides which we haven't had a For Sale posting to this list in what?, three days now?!? It's like the list is sorta getting back to it's roots; you know, like why I started it in the first place (bike race info) - well a few of you older ones know; yep the ones that got all teary-eyed when I mentioned I would actually be at a race this season - you know who you are..and, if you post a follow up to this, everyone else will know who you are too. My advice is to just quietly take up a collection and buy this rack so you don't have to enjoy/suffer/deal with another posting from me with a reduced price, more sales hype, and that kind of thing. First off I have a bike rack (built for two) for a receiver hitch. The bikes sit sideways behind the car so they're not out there on the roof break'n wind. Everyone likes to say how you'd better jump on this deal 'before it goes to eBay', but not me. Why not you ask? 'Cuz I'm not a car salesman, nope I'm an engineer, which means we have entirely our own set of social ineptitudes to deal with. Well, that and I know what a pain it is to sell stuff on eBay: easy to buy but not so easy to sell - just ask Crazy Nate. So just follow the link to the ad on Craig's List and then jump on the deal. Better hurry - before it's too late - no, I swear, I'm not making this up. I got an anonymous tip that I should have put the price much, much higher 'cuz Craig himself was seen drooling over the ad. It was, however, mid afternoon and Craig, who's visiting New Mexico this summer, had sampled his first Lota Burger for lunch - so he may have just succumbed to the total satiation following a Lota Burger, there by explaining the semi-conscious drooling. You buying this? No, I didn't think so.
